The Aquitaine region and its famous vintages have made the châteaux in the Bordeaux region famous. These properties, which are surrounded by vineyards, are worth their weight in gold.

On the outskirts of a city for which the surrounding region is named and ringed by vineyards that are famous the world over, majestic estates can be found in the midst of impressive wineries. The boom in the luxury real estate market in this corner of France’s Gironde department, due in large part to the new high-speed TGV train line, is reflected in the value of the châteaux for sale in Bordeaux. In south-western France, this land of milk and honey (and wine tourism) is developing at a breakneck pace. Any and all investments in attractive properties are a sound choice for the future.

Travelling for business and pleasure

The region’s top wine destinations are well aware of this new trend and have rushed to open their doors to tourists working their way along the Routes des Vins (Wine Trail) in search of delicious wines to sample. It’s also a great opportunity to get a closer look at a real-life château. These properties are an extravagant piece of history and sometimes even classified as historical monuments. While they would never stake a « for sale » sign in the front yard for fear of distracting from the estate’s elegance, that doesn’t mean they aren’t open to offers…

Available opportunities in Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The buildings overlooking the oldest vineyards producing subtle wines come in every style, including medieval, Renaissance, Gothic, and Neoclassical. The most famous châteaux have been renovated by talented architects, and some have even enlisted designers to create futuristic cellars, thereby writing a new chapter in their stories and taking a bold step towards the modern age—all while making their traditions even more beautiful. With hundreds of these temples dedicated to the glory of wine, the opportunities to purchase a château in Aquitaine are the product of an entrepreneurial decision founded on an underlying passion.

Labels with prestigious names

You’ll never find so many French châteaux for sale outside of this region. Available properties can be found on either side of the Garonne River. These estates are scattered across a region divided into 63 different controlled destinations of origin and are highly sought after among those in the know. Of course, these wine-producing assets, which cover 112 000 hectares, represent a rare commodity and are therefore in high demand. Give your imagination free rein reading the names of these estates, which are located in Médoc, Graves, Sauternais, Entre-deux-Mers, Dordogne, Libournais, Blayais, and Bourgeais. They include Château Latour, Laffitte Rothschild, Margaux, Haut-Brion, Cheval Blanc, Pétrus, Yquem, Cos d’Estournel, Pichon-Longueville, Ducru Beau Caillou, Lagrange, Giscours, Palmer, Talbot, Beychevelle, Lynch, and Dauzac. In fact, the list seems as long as the menu for a 12-course gourmet meal. These brands, and many others, have become regional and even global benchmarks. Over the centuries, they have transformed into works of art that make for truly incredible real estate investments.
