1777-2017, Versailles celebrates the 240 years of Théâtre Montansier
A forefront artistic symbol of Versailles, the Théâtre Montansier is celebrating its 240th anniversary until the 2nd of December 2017.
Inaugurated on the 18th of November 1777, in the presence of Louis XVI and Queen Marie-Antoinette, today the Théâtre Montansier is one of the largest cultural venues in the city of Versailles, along with the Royal Opéra and the Château. This symbol of a ongoing spectacle, that has the status of theater-school, fully deserved to celebrate its 240th anniversary with a new outstanding programme.
Versailles and the Montansier, 240 years of theatrical magic
Born under the auspices of Mademoiselle Montansier, the Théâtre Montansier, of which the Petit Trianon is the exact replica, has been classified as historical monument. Over time, it has hosted the most famous groups of actors as well as filming by Stephen Frears and Roman Polanski.
Let the festivities begin
Until the 2nd of December 2017, a succession of venues will put this historical theater in the spotlight. Exhibition of documents coming from the Versailles archives, conferences, visits, animations and exceptional representations will showcase 240 years of artistic magic. An anniversary also celebrated by a new book featuring the story of this unique place. Theater buffs will the thrilled !
