After 18 months of renovation, the Hôtel de Rohan-Guémené, built in the middle of the 19th century, on the former Place Royale, now Place des Vosges, reopens its doors to the public. One does not enter through the main courtyard, formerly used by coaches, but through a discreet door leading to the inner sanctuary, where we discover major works retracing the life of the writer through manuscripts, furniture and artefacts evoking the significant events of his existence or illustrating his writings.

Renewed and digital visits

On 2 floors, the former residence of Victor Hugo enriches its discovery trail with information tools, digital applications, interactive terminals, workshops and the publication of a book published by Paris Museums, pegged to the taste of the day. In addition, the museum's presentations reveal new acquisitions, emphasizing recent restorations, a portrait of the writer, that of his daughter Adèle and her unpublished drawings.

An invitation to a naturalistic travel painter

To be more complete, a commented stroll is programmed on Hauteville House, the famous writer's family home in exile, on the island of Guernesey, with its 360° views. These preserved treasures accompany the first retrospective of François-Auguste Biard, a « genre » painter. Contemporary with the author of Notre-Dame de Paris, more than 150 paintings by this artist, stemming from public and private collections, are presented. Thus, there is great number of events on this site dedicated to Hugo, which will now be enhanced by a landscaped garden and a gourmet café with a terrasse, organized with the collaboration of the Mulot pastry shop. Forget virtual visits under lockdown, let's enjoy room live visits once again!
