Antique lovers and bargain-hunters will feel right at home in the flea-market atmosphere of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Nicknamed the Venice of Comtat, this small city in the French department of Vaucluse is internationally renowned within interior decorating circles. The water wheels, boardwalks, pedestrian streets, floating markets, and churches all thrum with the hustle and bustle of its 350 antique dealers.

Bargain hunting in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the flea market capital

Located in charming boutiques, southern Gothic- or Baroque-style townhouses, art galleries, or stalls along the streets, these shops keep up the myth of this unique phenomenon in Provence. Started in 1890 by the cabinetmaker Joseph Légier, it is now the third top city in Europe in terms of turnover, after London and before Saint-Ouen.
