The silence that reigns on the island of Porquerolles is uninterrupted by the noise of car engines—just the song of cicadas and the waves against the shore. Tourists who love spending time in nature visit the island alongside with art aficionados, who flock to Villa Carmignac, a Provencal farmhouse dedicated to modern art that is hosting an exhibition called « La Source » from 13 April to 3 November 2019.

Carmignac Villa, the arty address of Porquerolles

Visitors can peruse 60 works of art. Max Ernst’s « Alice in Wonderland » leads to a large, immersive fresco by Fabrice Hyber and a study of the female body by Egon Schiele, Roy Lichtenstein, and Thomas Ruff; the abstract expressionism of Gerhard Richter, Theaster Gates, and Susan Rothenberg; and the black totem of De Wain Valentine.

New experiences

In the sculpture garden, the villa’s temporary works are sure to make an impression. A series of performances will also treat visitors to an in-depth look at the birth of a sound, vision, and gesture. Starting in June, during the full moon, guests can also enjoy tours through the island’s landscapes to the seashore while being serenaded by the voices of Patti Smith and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
