The César retrospective, from the 13th of December to the 26th of March 2018
For the 20th anniversary of his death, the Pompidou Centre pays homage to César with a retrospective that highlights his work as a sculptor.
At the end of this year, the works of César presented by the Centre Pompidou coincide with the 20th anniversary of the artist's death. Famous since the age of 25 years old thanks to his provocations, the sculptor has lived more than 50 years of creation. He is the last major figure of the New Realism who had never been the topic of a retrospective in a museum with a national scope.

Through more than a hundred compressions, sculptures in wrought iron, Empreintes et Expansions, the public will discover the wide array of artworks created by César Baldaccini, one of the great artists of this time. Monumental, spectacular, and sometimes ephemeral, revealing his constant interest for contradictory materials, such as marble, cloth, iron, straw, plastic or paper.

Graced with a power of permanent invention, César gave his name to a cinematrographical trophy, in 1976. All along his life, he never ceased to impress his fans who admired his faculty to confront his work featuring classicism and contemporary modernity, with a mastering of the sculptor's trade associated with very innovative gestures.
