Flashback on 6 centuries of history at the Namur Museum of Ancient Arts, in the Wallonia region of Belgium
Capital of Belgian Wallonia, the city of Namur goes back on 600 years of history, from the 10th to the 16th century, allowing us to discover its patrimony of yesteryear.
What better way than to know the past of a city in order to adopt it? Such is the case of Namur, the Belgian regional capital, seat of the Wallonia parliament. At the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers, it pinpoints its medieval past during an exhibition retracing 600 years of battles, conquests, European invasions, urbanisation and development of its historical centre.
6 centuries of history in one single museum
Unitl the 26th of January 2020, the public is invited in the rooms of the Musée Provincial des Arts Anciens to rediscover its ramparts, its streets and its houses, as they were during the 10th and 16th century. During an educational venue, visitors will be able to admire the roles paid by counts, canons, mayors, brewers and fishermen, who structured their municipal territory.

A city of yesterday and today
The exhibition showcases the instances of powers—seigniorial, ecclesiastical and civic—as well as the corporations and trades that participated in its evolution over the centuries, without forgetting the impact of monuments in the permanent fixation of private habitats. A very enriching moment that will surely encourage you to venture out and discover the contemporary side of Namur.
