In Boulogne-Billancourt, the exhibition « L'Art déco, un art de vivre: le paquebot Île-de-France » highlights the saga of a famous cruiseship during the Roaring Twenties, until the 10th of February 2020.
Dedicated to the former glory of the Roaring Twenties, this interesting cultural event could only take place in the Musée des Années 30 of this upscale suburb, located in the Hauts-de-Seine. The saga of the legendary Île-de-France cruiseship, exploited until the 1958, unveils the backstage of a giant of the seas and its contribution to the artistic life of the era, as well as the art of travel and transatlantic cruises.
Inside the Île-de-France during Roaring Twenties
Walking through the well-organized presentation rooms, visitors raise the anchor to discover the decors and equipments of the famous Île-de-France vessel. Paintings, furniture, sculptures, collector objects, this sophisticated French landmark of the seas unveils its cabins, reception rooms, reading area, beauty treatment cabins, auditorium, hospital and entertainment spaces—including its impressive kitchens.
Festive and socialite cruises
The daily routine of the crew and the ship's engine room are also of course featured. Impossible to miss the list of celebrities, who participated in crossings or posed for photographers during their wedding, without forgetting the shooting of the film « The Last Voyage».
