The Museum of Fine Art (MSK) in Ghent, located in the beautiful region of Flanders, is a favourite attraction of all Belgians. It is one of the kingdom’s oldest museums, and its rich and diverse permanent collections have earned it a loyal following. It recently decided to break with tradition by adding works from a series of Modernist artists to its collections of paintings by Old Masters.

The museum’s new look

In this prestigious building, which features a uniquely expansive design set off by natural light, traditional and modern masters have never been so deftly paired together. The paintings, illustrations, drawings, and sketches of Van Eyck, Rubens, and Jérôme Bosch; the works of the Flemish Primitives; and medieval wall tapestries blend harmoniously with the paintings of headliner artists like Magritte.

Chameleon-like museum halls

Visitors will be overwhelmed by the beauty on display in museum’s halls, which are adorned with classical, surrealist, and expressionist works that have once again become relevant to the modern day. The museum now highlights art from the 19th and 20th centuries thanks to a series of acquisitions that have never before been displayed and interventions from three contemporary artists that offer a fresh perspective on the topic. It’s high time to visit Ghent so you can see it for yourself!
