Opening of the TWA Hotel, at the JFK airport of New York
In New York, the former terminal of the defunct TWA airline is once again operational as a deluxe hotel, in vintage mode.
In the USA, everything is recycled! 18 years after its closing, the ex-terminal of the Trans World Airlines company, which most of us have taken or seen in many films, is back no track. This time, the building conceived by American-Finnish architect Eero Saarinen, in 1962, has retrieved its glam and been transformed into a hotel with a view on the landing strips of JFK aiport in New York.
Staying at the TWA Hotel, in JFK
Its cement shell is surrounded by 2 glass buildings where the 512 rooms are located. Facing the tarmac, but soundproof, they are decorated with a deliciously retro style—the pimento red logo is apposed on each object. The venue even shelters a museum in homage to the crews' unifoms as well as a centre of conferences in order not to have to leave the terminal.
Total fun and food concept in New York
Regarding entertainment, a customized Lockheed Constellation airplane is used for the cocktails bar, and the rooftop pool overs a plunging view on the take-offs and landings of the planes. Small plus, it's star chef, Jean-Georges Vongerrichten, who was chosen to put together the menus of the 8 restaurants. No doubt your business will soon be taking you to New York…
