The Pompidou-Metz Centre: 10 years of exhibitions and a strong local anchoring
Inaugurated in 2010, the Centre Pompidou-Metz has presented a great number of high-end exhibitions over the past ten years, and has anchored itself locally with success.
A winning wager for this architectural UFO that helped to transform a local district, then the entire city. Under its white panache, the Centre Pompidou-Metz has earned the trust of artists and institutions with whom it established trustworthy partnerships. Here, no stock of paintings sleeping in the basement, awaiting a hypothetic event to rescue them out of oblivion.
10 years in Metz for the Centre Pompidou
The works arrive, are shown to the public, then depart. Thanks to clever programming, it has already welcomed 3.6 million visitors since its opening. Having become the venue where something is always happening, this cultural space multiplies exhibitions, workshops, performances, projections and concerts—faithful to the values of its sister institution, the Centre Pompidou Paris.
The surprises of an eclectic programming
The year will start off with 2 monumental installations by Giuseppe Penone and Susanna Fritscher. In the Spring, Folklore, conceived with the Mucem of Marseille, will tackle this tradition, and Yves Klein will be put in the spotlight with « Le Ciel comme Atelier ». In May, Taiwanese Lee Mingwei will offer here a unique musical experience. In the Fall, Chagall Le Passeur de Lumière will explore his work on stained glass windows, and mid-November, Aerodream will focus on inflatable structures, from 1950 to 2020. And this is just the beginning of arty in the capital of Moselle!
