Arch of Constantine, in Roma

Near the Coliseum, the Roman Forum, located on the former « Alley of Triumphs », has dominated the Italian capital from its 21 meters since its inauguration, during the 4th century. Its precious marbles and superb Corinthian columns relate the victories of Emperor Constantine. www.turismoroma.it

The Brandebourg Gate, in Berlin

Surmounted by a quadriga, this Berlin symbol, that was an integral part of the controversial wall dividing the city in two, is linked to all the major German events. Puerta de Alcala, in Madrid

Erected on the Plaza de la Independencia, this former door to the city, built in the 18th century, enabled inhabitants of the Spanish provinces to enter Madrid. Although it has a cultural purpose, it is surmounted by statues of children named « Angels of Peace ». www.esmadrid.com/fr

Arcades of the Fiftieth anniversary, in Bruxelles

Wellington Arch, in London
