The triple star restaurant of Bruges, Hertog Jan, will close its doors on 22 December 2018
With three Guide Michelin stars, Gert de Mangeleer will close the doors of his restaurant, Hertog Jan, Duke Jean, near Bruges, moving on to new gourmet adventures.
Just like the passing away of the highly regretted Paul Bocuse signed the end of a culinary era, in France, the closing announcement of Michelin three star restaurant, Hertog Jan, is sending all of Belgium into a tizzy. On the evening of December 22nd, the last service will be taking place in this mythical venue, that every gourmet must have tested at least once in his life as an epicurean.
Hertog Jan, the unique 3 star restaurant in Bruges
The reputation of this establishment has gone way beyond the frontiers of Belgium ! Installed in an authentic Flemish farmhouse, totally streamlined and sparse, producing its own vegetables in keeping with the seasons—its atypical chef, Gert De Mangeleer, invites you to partake in a rare experience, with the complicity of sommelier Joachim Boudens.
A legendary table becomes ephemeral
Everything begins with a small stroll in the garden, a glass of ice tea in hand. Under the sign of emotion, the tasting can then take place in an ultra sober dining room, with a view on the house vegetable garden. In the plates, tartare potatoes from the Polders with Royal Belgian Caviar, grilled asparagus with melted pancetta, lobster from the Escaut embankments with braised yellow beets and Steenvoordet pigeon with celery and morrel mushrooms risotto along with a truffle coulis topping. After this feast, there is still time to continue with remarkable sweet delights. But careful, you only have a few months left to sit down to a stupendous and unforgettable culinary experience…
