Even more elegant since its reopening, the Parc de Bagatelle welcomes a chosen clientele along its pristine alleys and its lush rose gardens.
On the edge of Neuilly-sur-Seine, bordering the Bois de Boulogne, this green space steeped with history is back in the spotlight after long months of being locked down like many other public landmarks. Its creation is the result of a bet between Queen Marie-Antoinette and the Comte d'Artois, who had purchased the domain in 1775. This « bagatelle » with bucolic charm was built in 64 days, on 24 hectares, in the Anglo-Chinese style, very popular at the time.
The art of botanics
Doubled up by a real restaurant, its alleys are punctuated with small bridges, rocks, mysterious grottos, mirors of water enhanced by lotus and water lilies as well as artificial cascades. The park also comprises centenial trees, rare plants, a 19th century pagoda, worthy of the Middle Kingdom, and a vegetable garden. So, don't be surprised if you run into peacocks and ducks by the dozen—this is their home.
In the name of the rose
Keep the best for the end by visiting its unforgettable gardens of iris, perennial plants or the « Présentateurs ». They lead to the rose garden. Facing the orangerie, these multicolored flowerbeds shelter more than 1,200 varieties of roses dedicated to celebrities. They are the occasion for an international contest since 1907. Prepare yourself, one of them could very well bear your name one day…
