This little village nestled in Eure, a region north-west of Paris, is abundant with flowers. We can see how the flowers inspired Monet’s colour palette while he lived a happy life here. Remnants of Claude Monet, from the Museum of Impressionism and the Monet Foundation at his old house, to the Water Garden, continue to attract many visitors. On the right bank of the Seine, a visit to Giverny commences in lush green surroundings.

Giverny, impressionist landscapes made for an escapade

Passionate about gardens, Monet drew his inspiration from calming nature and as a result, attracted many American painters to the Seine valley for its bewitching glow. The area boasts rhododendron, bamboo, cherry, spruce, yew and weeping willow trees that drape over a pond of exotic floating water lilies. This is where Monet painted his Water Lilies, Le Pont Japonais and Le Clos Normand.

Claude Monet, from past to present

At the foundation, you will learn about the artist’s day-to-day and how he lived his life. Monet was the frontrunner of the impressionist movement and now, visitors can admire Japanese prints, watercolours, etchings and illustrations on display within the walls of his former home. It's not to be missed ! This summer, the country setting of Giverny will be the starting point of a wonderful day out in Ile-de-France.
