In South Africa, Cape Town opens the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art
Opening its doors in Cape Town, the Zeit Museum is the most important cultural space in the world, dedicated to African artists of the 21st century.
Located on the very touristic waterfront of the Cape, in a former grain silo, the Zeitz Mocaa Museum is the accomplishment of British architect Thomas Heatherwick's project, and the intense drive of German collector, Jochen Zeitz. He is the one who allows African artists to speak out and sets forth their works on the continent—the new Eldorado of contemporary art.
Zeitz Mocaa, the new contemporary museum of South Africa
Very ambitious, this concrete cathedral spans 6 000 m² of exhibition surface divided in one hundred rooms. At the heart of a tubular and partitioned space, the 9-level building, that has already found its space in the cultural landscape of the megalopolis, allows natural light to enter through its irregular windows with 54 facets. And the audience is there for the rendezvous !
A 100 % African arty panel
Amongst the artists most in the spotlight, Nigerian Taiye Idahor, South-African Thania Petersen, Malagasy Joël Andrianomeariosa, Kenyan Cyrus Kabirule, performer Athi-Patra Ruga and Angolese photographer Edson Chagas are front row. After this arty marathon, you must visit the city, and beyond the impressive Table Mountain overlooking it…
