Located at the heart of the city in front of 2000-year-old amphitheatres, the building, designed by the architect Elizabeth de Portzamparc, gives a nod to the area’s history with its draped façade, which is styled like Roman toga. Its thousands of glass tiles, which come together to form a modern mosaic, demonstrate how deeply the city’s identity is rooted in its history and embody the transmission of the city’s heritage to future generations.

This new cultural showcase will feature perfectly restored archaeological collections based on the theme of « Antiquity in the modern era ». The museum will also serve as a space for relaxation with its Mediterranean garden of 3500 m² and planted terrace featuring an exceptional panoramic view.

A contrast between tradition and modernity

Visitors will be taken back in time to the Gallo-Roman era. Unique pieces will be presented in an innovative setting featuring augmented reality, interactive maps, and immersive video projections all along an interior streetway following the path of the ancient rampart of Augustus. This is just a few of the many wonders of Nîmes, candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status.
