Located between the cities of Namur and Dinant in Belgium’s verdant Wallonia region, the Gardens of Annevoie has a history that dates back to the 18th century. At the time, the industrial aristocrat and ironmaster Charles-Alexis de Montpellier inherited an estate. He immediately decided to expand the castle and renovate the grounds, opting for a French-style garden with a touch of Italian influence and English romanticism.

The architects of this verdant gem, which is listed as a Historical Monument, preserved all the curves and levels they managed to incorporate into the landscape. To create the bubbling fountains, they diverted the village’s natural streams and the course of Rouillon Creek, which runs along the property, with an ingenious hydraulic system that doesn’t use any machinery.

Picture-perfect landscapes

While visiting the Artichoke pond, the Hornbeam lane, Neptune's cave, and the Stretches of water, guests can admire gardens that look like they came straight out of a painting. Visitors can also enjoy a stay at the estate’s inn, which offers cosy rooms, and pop in to the brewery, which serves Walloon specialities in old-fashioned jars. A perfect stop for a weekend in the countryside!
