The Antwerp Town Hall, a major touristic Flemish site, in Belgium

Behind the stunning Brabo fountain, it really stands out! The landmark of local tourism, classified since 1999 on the UNESCO World Heritage of Humanity list, is located on the Grand-Place. Designed, during the middle of the 16th century, by architect Cornelis Floris de Vriendt, this edifice in the "Manierism" style with a Renaissance facade, is the beating heart of Antwerp's municipal politics.

This impressive building is part of the must-go stopovers for art lovers. Visitors enter through small wooden doors on which are featured the portraits of the Dukes of Brabant. At the origin, these were used to shelter commerces in order to finance its construction. Inside, the description of its history and its cultural wealth surprise even the most jaded.

Stunning reception rooms

Follow the guide! It will lead you to the Leys room, and in the one dedicated to Weddings, ornamented with frescos, before arriving at the entrance of the "Promenade". There you can contemplate the dress worn by Queen Astrid, in 1935. A little further, enter in the Salon de la Milice, recognizable thanks to its huge fireplace, you will also catch a glimpse of the large Council room, and the sacro-saint cabinet of the Mayor. A not-to-be missed historical stroll during your next escapade to Antwerp.
