The calm and charm of the Ixelles ponds, in the middle of Brussels

Most Brussels residents know their way to the Ixelles ponds, a posh district of the European capital. Close to a forest park, they are the delight of Sunday family strollers and hikers. These are the last vestiges of seven ponds formed by the Maelbeek, a small stream that takes its source inside the Gothic La Cambre Abbey.

In Brussels, on the Ixelles ponds

Separated by the Square du Souvenir, bordered by private houses and very coveted mansions, they span about 5 hectares and are part of the communal landscape. A few minutes from the permanent bustle of midtown, they are located in the prolongation of Place Flagey to form one of the most attractive green spaces of the agglomeration.

Highly coveted upscale apartments

And while they shelter the statues of writer Charles de Coster and sculptor Charles Samuel, it is possible to admire a wide array of tree species: linden tree, maples, planes, chestnut trees, willows, tulip trees and weeping willows form a harmonious ensemble where calm is mingled with charm. Classified in 1976, it is necessary to pay a high price in order to own an apartment with a view on the Ixelles ponds.
