Biot, the Provencal capital of glass blowing art
Between Nice and Cannes, the city of Biot cultivates its image as the glass blowing capital in Provence, while renewing its creative drive.
Biot and glass, a story that goes back to 1956. That year, the Provencal town reached international fame in the art of living segment thanks to the invention of engineer ceramicist Eloi Monod, and called upon young budding talents. Labelled Ville et Métiers d'Art since 1997, Biot has made the "bubble glass" its specialty, and a springboard of creative renewal.
Glass blowing art invites itself to Biot, in Provence
Trained by apprenticeship masters, those who have the creative vibe in turn set forth this know-how by taking advantage of the label "Enterprise of Living Patrimony". It's in their workshops or in former oil mills that they highlight the ancestral method. A high-performance that relies on a traditional technique reflecting an identity and the local economic patrimony.
