A secret address in Paris: the Musée de la Vie Romantique
The exhibition « Literary Salons », planned to last until the 15th of September 2019, is a golden occasion to rediscover the Musée de la Vie Romantique, in Paris.
Symbolizing the golden age of romanticism, in Paris, during the second part of the 19th century, the former homestead of Dutch painter Ary Scheffer is located in « La Nouvelle Athènes ». A district in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, that was perceived as the « Republic of arts and literature » at its time, is the setting of charming pavilion evoking the memory of George Sand and her friends.
Celebrating romantic life in Paris
Hotbed of inspiration for artists and philosophers, its museum, renovated by decorator Jacques Garcia, features many souvenirs of writer friends, George Sand and Ernest Renan. On two levels, the bourgeois salons are testimony of a carefree art of living, reflected in the paintings, sculptures, furniture and precious jewelry pieces stemming from the property of Nohant, in the region of Berry.
Exhibitions and a tea salon
It is an ideal setting for ephemeral exhibitions, including partnerships with other museums, such as the current one dedicated to the taste for Literary Salons between 1815 and 1848, as a duo with the Petit Palais. Cherry on the visitor's cake, another asset is that it attracts many lovebird couples. Under its skylight, the greenhouse shelters a delicious tea salon, coached by Rose Bakery, to finally feel alone in the world at the heart of the capital.
