Because the Mirage House is covered in mirrors, the building blends seamlessly into the landscape of Tinos, an island in Greece. The resulting transparent visual effect extends all the way to the horizon.
Built in the Cyclades, the Mirage House was designed by Kois Associated Architects to function as an invisible oasis. The goal was to offer residents a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea without sacrificing privacy. It is located atop a hill in Tinos, known as the Island of the Virgin, which is also the top pilgrimage destination in Greece.
The mirror-like effect of transparent architecture
The island’s 40 picturesque villages are home to a thousand churches, as many dovecotes, and dozens of abandoned windmills, giving it an appearance unlike anywhere else on earth. This one-floor building offers around 200 m² of floor space overlooking a stunning seascape. The living space also features a vanishing edge pool. The resulting visual effect extends all the way to the horizon.
A housing concept that blends seamlessly with nature
The pool serves as the house’s roof, providing insulation and protection from the sun’s rays. The interior of this cavernous home, only half of which is above ground, features a large, open-air living and dining room, three bedrooms, and a fully equipped kitchen overlooking a breath-taking seaside view. While the villa is not for sale, its concept can be endlessly customised.
